Hey first of all i must admit i seemed to have broken a major rule for experience shavers, And that is to not buy you razor on ebay for 20 dollars. Well i did this any way and got stuck with a crummy blade. And i really would like to know a good brand of razor and strop. I already have a norton stone 4000/8000 grit combo. But i really need to now the proper brand name for the razor and Strops. So please guys help me out i don't want to experiment and end up looking like Stuntman mike from death proof.

The classifieds here or one of the banners to the right would be the best place for a newbie to get a razor. straightrazordesigns.com among others have razors that are shave ready. Anything you buy from the mentioned site will be a good starter razor.

It depends on the razor. There are lots of $20 razors on eBay that at least have the potential to be great shavers. Did you buy some new crap Pakistani? If so, then it has no hope. On the other hand, if you bought some old razor, it may be restored into a great shaver. So, what was the razor? Could you provide any identifying marks on it?

Well i have a "beauty and barber" razor and strop.

OK. Yes. What you have is garbage. I'm sorry to say that neither is of any use at all. I have honed a Beauty and Barber razor and it is crap. I have held, but not used, a B&B strop and it too is crap. The best thing for you to do is to throw them away, slap your forehead, and say "DOH!"

For your next razor, go with what Nun2sharp said.

Oh, and the rule is not to not buy a razor off of eBay for $20. The rule for a beginner is to not buy a razor off of eBay, period.

Depends on how much you want to spend really. The SRP classifieds is a good place to watch for razors and strops. Here is a place to get good razors for cheapish: Whipped Dog Straight Razor Sales. If you want to spend a little more but get something new check out the Dovo Best Quality razor at Straight Razor Designs. If you buy from SRD you get it honed for free too which is nice.

As for strops, again depends on what you want to spend. Cheap is at whipped dog - poor man's strop. Ruprazor.com also has a cheapish strop ($22) called the "filly". If have lots to spend get a good strop. SRD has lots of nice strops for a little more. I have a poor man's strop myself because I am a poor man. One day I though I will have a really nice strop and maybe sleep with it under my pillow, who knows? If you see something you like somewhere ask a member about whether it is junk or not - they will probably know instantly. Don't be discouraged by your lame experience - Good luck!

You dont nessesarely want to throw that "razor like object" away
It can be usefull for pracktise when you dont need a sharp edge(dry shaving, testing different strokes, getting used to holding it...)

PM me your address and I'll send you a razor that will actually shave. It won't be anything fancy, but it will get you started while you spend some time reading here and learning about what you should buy in the future.
