Thread: Strops and lather

I have been wondering if anyone here has tried stropping with lather on the strop. I know that people clean the strop with lather and a bottle and I also know that using lather on a stone changes the performance of the hone. So has anyone here experimented with stropping with lather on the strop to see the results?

I haven't tried it. I have lathered the strop, dried it overnight, then wiped the residue off the next day. I do this to increase draw, but stropping with lather on the strop would likely diminish draw, and, in my opinion, that's not what I want to do. I'm aiming at increasing draw for I believe that is what makes a strop effective.

I dont believe this does a thing for the razor. It may clean the strop, but little more.

I would imagine doing it too often is just going to diminish the quality of the leather as well. Can't see it doing much for the edge of the razor

I assume you mean wet lather, based on your examples. I've tried it. It eliminates all the effect of stropping. You might as well just wave the razor in the air. Now, keep in mind, that a lot of people would be better off, edge wise, stropping in the air.

I've tried waving the razor in the air and I wouldn't recommend it. Not only the edge does not improve one iota, it's dangerous to cats and the razor.

Well, it might be good for soap sales.

Humid air does create more draw.

+1 This is why you should always do your razor swinging after you get out the shower and before you shave.
