Default 12" xl double sided paddle strop

I'm looking at getting a paddle strop as my first strop.

Ive got experience with knifes and carving tools on paddle strops, and i think i would be most comfortable this way.

Also having two sides will let me make use of one side for compound to finish after honing.

this is the one im looking at 12" XL Double Sided Paddle Strop

any advice as to paddle strops, or any advise in the opposite direction?

I use a paddle I made. 3 X 19 leather length. 24 overall. That strop would be to short for me but you get 2 sides I don't use paste so YMMV
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I would recommend the SRD modular paddle. You can replace the leather if you nick it up and can swap out for when you want to use pastes and you can get a variety of different leathers and materials to go on it.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

ouch a little above my price range there unfortunately. I'm trying to fill out the rest of my kit: brush, strop, and soap for under 100

im thinking the star shave paddle strop looks like its got nicer leather and is only 28, think ill grab one or 2 of those and a brush should fit my needs pretty well

I made the below out of some extra hardwood flooring I had laying about.
    It's got a 12" working surface and a 5" handle.
It was carmelized ash hardwood, which I bonded a balsa board to the bottom side with contact cement. The balsa was from the local craft store and was wetted, sanded, and wetted once more to raise the grain to accept the media. (Tip from Phil at The Classic Edge Shaving Store Your Straight Razor Specialists. ).
The leather was from some old stock I have from old jackets and purses bought at the second hand stores around the area. It's also available at custom leather shops for around 20$ for a 3"x24" strip.
I use a krylon easy tack spray adhesive on the back of the leather and the board that is repositionable. That means it holds tight but can be removed after some time, or damage to the leather by peeling at the corner.

I have .25 diamond spray on the balsa side and nothing but neatsfoot oil on the leather.
I also made a few out of balsa and felt to use with .5 CO in 12 and 18" working lengths but the 18" is better on a table.
    Good luck
