    Default SRD Presesed felt strop

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a SRD English Bridle strop with the pressed felt strop material. I have done numerous searches and they all pretty much agree that this is a great strop for using abrasives.

What if I do not want to use a paste or spray? Is the pressed felt strop suitable for everyday stropping prior to hitting the leather? Or should I replace that strop with a webbing or premium fabric strop material?

Also what is the SRD premium material? Iv'e seen plenty of reviews on the different leather but very little on the different materials strops that are offered.

Again, thanks in advance for any help or insight.

I can't comment on the felt, but the premium fabric is cotton canvas and works great.

I have the pressed felt and like it very much is a second material. Most of my strops I use linen but the wool is my second choice over the cotton canvas.

Yes the Pressed Felt works very well in place of Linen / Fabric

I tested one of the first Felt Strops that SRD made and specifically used it plain for some time before applying Diamond spray to it just to find that out

Been using pressed felt for about seven years for daily use before and after shaving and am very satisfied with its performance. Mine came with a Hand American (if memory serves me right) leather strop I bought from ChrisL. I use the felt plain, no paste or spray.

Doesn't it feel "furry"? I got used to using the webbed fabric on my latigo SRD strop.

It does feel a little furry/fuzzy but its what I use as my daily strop. I do like the SRD webbed fabric for after I hone a razor.

Been thinking about one of these to go with the ROO strop. Got to hold off a couple months but hope to have one before summer is over.

I'll second this. I'm very content with my SRD cotton convas strop. I originally bought a SRD strop with poly webbing, but quickly found that I don't like the feel of stropping on what is basically seat belt material. Not that it doesn't work, I just dislike the feel. It's zippy and doesn't really have any resistance, the razor just kind of planes across the surface. But my razor shaved the exact same as it does using linen as a secondary material.

I did however turn that poly webbing strop into a stand-alone pasted hanger with D-rings at either end. I like it as a method for conveying paste. Probably because the paste is doing the work, and I only need 5-10 laps on paste before I call it good. So it doesn't matter much what the strop feedback feels like.

At any rate, in my estimation SRD simply wouldn't sell something as a secondary material if it didn't work as a secondary material should without paste. Just a matter of preference really.
