    Default SRD Chromium Oxide Spray

Does anyone have any experience with the SRD Chromium Oxide Spray? I picked up a bottle, shook it, and when I went to use it it would dribble out. I'd occasionally get a spray, but then I'd pump and nothing. I tried cleaning it out, but no go. And when I shook it, it would leak out the nozzle.

Thinking I had a bad sprayer, I e-mailed SRD and they were kind enough to send me three new ones. So they came today and I put one in, shook and went to spray on my felt strop. Got a few good sprays out of it before it clogged up again. But then it started leaking.

I've also got their 0.5 micron Diamond Spray, and don't have any problems with it so not sure what the deal is with the Chromium. I've got two more sprayers, but I feel like it is going to do the same thing.

I don't know if this is normal for that and I should have just gone with a paste, or if I just happen to get bad sprayers.

    Thanks in advance.

I had the same experience. I tossed it and am sticking with the stick.

It's pretty thick stuff and is difficult to spray. Mine typically gets the plunger stuck in the down position and I have to pull it up, clogging is typical too.

Careful with it, as it can shoot globs too.

I wish I went the crayon for ease sake, but one application lasts quite awhile.

you can get some on a paper towel and gently apply to your strop, you need very little of it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to have this problem!
    Frustrating.

Yes, you can apply the liquid with a rag, but kind of defeats the purpose of being able to "mist" a light coating onto the strop.

I use the Kremer powder CrOx pigment, mix a small amount with Isopropyl alcohol and it works very well in a small spray bottle. Can get very even distribution on just about any sub straight I might want to try.

I think that you are right in that you will have the same issues with the others too.

I don't think that the problem is with the spray mechanism, but rather spraying anything with suspended particulates is likely to gloop up (I think that's a proper phrase). Maybe stirring it rather than shaking might be the answer. Keep the particulates moving.

I have to say that I use the crayon and have often wondered if the spray might give me a more consistent coverage. After reading this I guess not so I am grateful for the post.

    Good luck.

My sprayer on my chromium did the same thing, I filled my sink with hot water and stuck the end and and began to spray, eventually a big glob shot out and it works just fine. I have found that after it has been sitting a while all the particles congeal. A vigorous thorough shaking works for me every time. Shake it till you arm hurts then keep shaking, I shake it for like 5 minutes straight and havn't had a problem since. I hope this helps.

Echoing Stefan, use some paper towel, wooden spatula or finger to wipe it on your media, you dont need much to have the desired effect. Then with some clean paper towel rub until the towel is clean, let it dry for 24 hrs or so and your good to go.

ive had these spray bottles form SRD too, 4 of them to be exact,, threw the away ,, just not a very good idea with the particles but them again the particle size is small so maybe it should work , yet they are just not good sprayers. the stuff is good stuff though. Tc
