Default Sequence on SRD Modular Paddle

I've just got a modular paddle - god I love this thing. So I was wondering, and this may have been asked before but, what is your sequence on your modular paddle. So far mine is

    1. Wool Felt
    2. 0.5 Diamond Spray on Wool Felt
    3. Rough leather
    4. Smooth leather

I have no logic but this makes sense to me, 1. warming up, 2. sharpening, 3. something with alot of drag to take off the diamonds (that may sound wack but yeah...) 4. Nice and smooth for final strop. Feel free to be as detailed (i.e. how many laps I know I missed out) as you want with reasons. Thanks!

If I was maintaining a razor on the paddle, rather than on a hanging strop, I would use the unpasted fabric/felt followed by the leather just as I do with my hanging strop. If I wanted to add sharpness or smoothness to a shave ready razor I would use a pasted surface but that wouldn't be used too often. Really want to have it when I need it though.

If you go from diamond to leather direct, you will contaminate the leather. I would make sure to get the edge clean - same as honing.

+1. I always wipe the razor with a tissue after using a pasted strop for just that reason, to avoid contamination of the leather.

+1 with Robin and Stu. As an aside I also wipe between pastes. Once in awhile I do a progression on my balsa flatbeds or my 4 sided paddle from 3.0, 1.0, 0.5 to 2.5 and wipe in between so as not to contaminate one grit with another.

I am sure that you mean 0.25 to finish off with.

(diamond spray felt, on need, once a month average.

i just orderd my modular paddle. It looks perfect. I'm going to use .5 on felt plus 0.25. i wil try the sprays after honing. using maybe 5 laps on each may be followed bt cro ox on my livi loom strop. I may also coat the rough leather with cro.ox. i will use this as my travel paddle or take it to work with me . that way i can also hone at work in between haircuts. handy piece of kit.

so after my last hone i will go .5 0.25 on felt followed by cro.ox' for touch ups i will try just .5 test and then 0.25 test then cr.ox and compare the differance .com
