Thread: 2 quick questions

i just lost my old strop, and i had some excess lambskin leather. i just wanted to know if this would be good material to make a new strop out of before i go buy a new one.

the other question, i found an old "quality wilbert" razor for 5 dollars, i was gonna practice honing but i thought i would ask if its a quality razor before i possibly mess it up.

The critter is unimportant. As long as it is a quality piece and meets the specs for a strop it will be fine.

ha, thanks that sounds great, i have three lamb hides so ill have plenty to make extra. i only ask if it matters because every "how to" guide i see specifically says cow hide.

Most leather I believe work fine. More of a preference I believe. Have at it!

i was moving from Virginia to Texas and somebody took one of the bags out of the bed of my truck at a gas station. i also lost my grandfathers dubl duck also. i guess stolen was the correct term but i didnt want to ramble on about my life story.

You can make a good strop out of almost any unblemished leather, Wilberts are great shavers, I have done a number of them and they are worth the 5$.
