Thread: Best way to store a strop?

I have a few strops that I need to store. What is the best way to store them?

Flat and out of the way.

Hanging with plastic over them to keep any dust off or in a container big enough to allow them to lay flat.
I know of one person that keeps some at the bottom of a dresser drawer. Just don't let them dry out.

I hang mine from a butchers hook on a rail in my wardrobe; as Grump has said, I use a plastic cover to keep dust off.

Every week I take them out and give them a good rubbing with my palm.

Those that are going into 'long-term' storage get a very light rub with neatsfoot oil on both sides of the strop.

Use a little neatsfoot to maintain the leather and displace moisture. Be careful covering them with plastic, plastic does not breathe and may trap moisture. The use of dessicants may be beneficial. Store flat if possible, but if space is at a premium you can roll the strop into a coil, linenside towards the center face of the strop towards the outside. DO NOT COIL THE STROP WITH THE LEATHER FACING IN! This will wrinkle the topmost layer of skin and then you are screwed.

just send it to me and i will hang it with my others.... and i will use it and make sure it is oiled and cared for and loved..... instead of locking it away like it was a criminal.... shame on you....

How long do you plan on storing them?

Out of harms way - take it from a cat owner who's pesky beast seems to have more of a fascination for my shaving paraphernalia than I do!
