    Default Hanging Strop Vs Paddle

Any thoughts on this ...Im not sure what to go with for my first . The paddle seems more convenient but is it as good as a hanging strop? How about ease of use for both? Thanks All.

    Paddles are good.

    Hangers are good.

Each one has pros and cons. Hanger pro - slack and pressure adjustment is up to the user.
Paddle pro - totally flat, more difficult to roll an edge when you're learning.

Personally, I like hangers. I bought a paddle to try it, used it 5 times and sold it. I'll stick with hangers.

Hangers are the classic strops and probably bench strops are the equivalent in a fixed strop. True paddles are mostly used for travel since they are small, compact and travel well. Personally I wouldn't use one for everyday stropping only because they are much smaller and take many more strokes to do the same job. I also find using a hanger more pleasurable.

If this helps solve the riddle of the hanger and the not: I have a couple paddle strops that I hang up after I use them.

Yup, and I can even do this when sober.

I think just starting out, the best way to learn to strop is with the strop laid flat on a table or countertop at waist height. You can accomplish this with a hanging strop--just undo the hardware, and there you go. Once you've got the hang of it, you can put it back together again.
