Thread: SRD Roo Strop

Was in the shopping mood today and was on the SRD site and noticed they had a roo strop.

I haven't been on as much lately but when did this strop come out?


I couldn't help ordering one!
Does anyone else have any experience with it? Can't wait to hear what others have to say.

I've had the fortune to test it out. It rocks. Really nice draw, between the Premium I and Premium III.

I've asked for one for Christmas.

I like the SRD Roo strop. I had used just about all strop leathers but the Roo was different in a great way.
It gets the job done nicely. Enjoy!

I have one of legions travel roo strops but a full size roo one is what I've been looking for. I got it with the wool felt just as something new to try as I only have the webbing on my old strop

The wool felt may provide a bit of backbone. The roo, as you know from Legion's strop, is really thin. The felt may help avoid too much deflection.

I'll have to give that a try. Usually I just pull the travel strop very tight.

I don't know if I've ever asked you but what's your favorite second material maxi? I remember you telling me a while ago that you were getting some new ones.

I've tried the webbing, the premium fabric and the felt.

I like the felt for sprays, and it has now become a bench strop.
The webbing is nice, but my all time favourite second material is the Premium SRD fabric. It's a bit thicker, and a has a low pitched "zip...zop, zip, zop" too it. And and I found that after about 50 or so stroppings, it really softened and opened up. It's really quite nice.

My nephew has the SRD Roo strop, the problem is with his it is almost unusable due to cupping. The leather is so thin, IMO there should be a backing of sort to prevent this. For this reason I couldn't recommend it.

With this particular strop, a little cupping which seems to come more from the way it is stored is actually not a problem. The Roo is a very thin material and the razors draws back and forth across it without problem with excellent results. Roo is extremely flexible and many people use a smaller handle with it and roll it up for travel. Some folks use the hard felt as a backing or another piece of leather to try to firm it up a little, but from a usage standpoint, this has really not been a problem.

While I haven't received the strop yet I agree with Lynn. Roo leather is very thing but also flexible.

I have another roo strop that cups also. All you need to do is pull it tight and once the razor is placed on the strop it should lay flat.

It's nice to see what others think of this strop I'll be sure to give my review once I get it.
