Default Can you guys help me decide?

I have been long overdue for a new strop. I have been looking at the srd horsehide or english bridle strops. I have currently been using latigo.

If you guys could steer me in the right direction on my decision I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

    Jon

Like you, I began straight razor shaving with a Latigo strop.

I just got a 3" English Bridle Strop from SRD for Christmas. It's great!

I've also heard good things about SRD's Premium Leather strops too.

In the end, as long as it's a quality piece, they all do the job you need doing. The differences are how they look and feel so it's a matter of what you like physical quality wise.

Like the others, My first good strop was Latigo. Prior to that, I had a very small buffed cowhide leather strop, Solingen I believe, good but small. I'm partial to SRD's strops. Huge selection, great prices, quality leather. The Premium 1 has a soft, buttery feel to it. Just the right amount of draw imho. The English Bridle has a bit more draw, and is a bit stiffer. I'd say in between the SRD premium 1 and the Latigo.

If I had to decide on 1 strop, It would be SRD's premium 1.

I use an SRD Modular Paddle with the English Bridle pad. It works fine.

I recently custom ordered a 2.5 inch english bridle leather and felt strop from Star Shaving. Felt can be used both sides, so I asked for the felt to be hung with its own snap bar and swivel. This was an additional $10.50. I plan to spray one side with .5 micron diamond slurry for the occasional strop on diamond.

    Jon,
I don't think you can go wrong with the SRD strops. I love the English Bridle (short). Also the British strop maker Neil Miller has excellent strops. I must say, the Illinois Strop No. 127 is still one of my preferred, and inexpensive, strops.

    Jon,
A good choice with English Bridle (short). That is a sweet strop.
