There was a George Saunders, born in England but relocated in New York, who had a barber and strop business.

Whether this is the same George Saunders who made your strop I don't know, but George Saunders & Son of Strand, London, submitted samples of their wares to the Great Exhibition in 1851, amongst which was their patented 'Metallic Tablet Razor Strop" - I think I can just make out the word 'metallic' on your box. They also made bars of strop dressing and other things, like kaleidoscopes!

    Regards,
    Neil

Definitely looks to read "Metallic Tablet".

Yes it does read metallic tablet. Wow! Thanks for the info. My grandfather was a rough character. He was a Machine gunner in the Austrian Army per WW1 and a bootlegger here in New Haven during prohibition . I wonder if he used this strop to keep his favorite shaver sharp to shave with or to cut a throat or two.
