Recommend a Strop in the UK
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a first strop that I can buy in the UK? I've found two places where they seem to be cheap (The Invisible Edge and eBay) but I everywhere else seems to stock expensive branded items. I don't want to get an expensive one as I'm probably going to butcher it learning
Thanks!

Can highly recommend Neil Miller: http://www.strop-shop.co.uk/
I bought a inexpensive 3" strop from him and I absolutely love it.

Which one did you go for? They seem quite expensive for a first strop! The 2.5" Wide Black Latigo Leather & Linen Hanging Razor Strop is the sort of thing I'm looking for.
Would it be cheaper getting one imported from the US?
I'm not after buying cheap, but what I don't want to do is buy something "too good" for a beginner and wasting my money

I think Neil has some cheaper practice strops on his web site, just poke around a little. I think they are just one piece of leather no frills-- no hardware. You could always contact him and just get a strip of leather with a leather thong to attach it to the wall for a first practice strop.

Should you feel you'd like to go with Neil Miller, send him an email/enquiry, tell him what you're after and I am sure he will have something to suit both your needs and wallet. As a producer and true artisan, he knows his leather and is a very accommodating chap.
I've never bought a strop off the Invisible Edge, but I would agree with comments about their service.Top notch.

Speaking from experience, Neil Miller and Invisible Edge are both very reliable suppliers, both sell excellent strops. The strops that they sell as 'starter' strops represent good value and would probably serve for a lifetime of shaving.
In terms of being 'too good' for a beginner, if you purchase a strop that is so cheap even an expert can't use it, frustration will surely follow.

The Electrochemist
KillerDr3w,
++1 on Mr Neil Miller; his strops are world class and he is a most fine chap to business with
In addition, as his strops are all in effect 'one-offs', you can get exactly the strop you would like by having a chat with him.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
