Thread: Comparison of the draw from the SRD strop choices

I wish the SRD site had a number-line showing the draw of each strop. ie: Latigo is a 6, Natural is a 9, Horse is a 3 ,etc.
Another number-line showing stiffness would be nice too .

Can someone compare the draw and stiffness of the SRD strops for me ? (I have the Latigo, so please use that as the base for the comparisons).

Why don't you send a message to Lynn or Don and ask them to consider this request for SRD?

I think it's a good idea, BTW.

Someone told me that the site indicates which of the strops has has a light, medium or heavy draw already.........

My opinion of a 1-10 may not be the same as the next guys and actually my opinion of light, medium and heavy is my opinion as well.

LOL.......I tried to describe the draws in the descriptions, but some people have felt some differences from those descriptions. Like I feel the Prem I starts light and really has an elegant draw. Others feel it is medium to heavy but smooth. Hard to give a rating to that. We'll keep trying though.

The website does describe each strop. But it's hard to figure out how they compare...

Here's the parts of the descriptions from the Website that mention draw (or thickness/stiffness):
Natural = Vegetable tanned leather that breaks in nicely develops a nice medium to heavy draw.
Latigo = Latigo strops made by Amish Craftsmen from premium hides to ensure the best stropping experience available.
Prem I = thick as Latigo but has a soft and supple feel and an elegant draw.
Prem II = smooth and slightly silky medium draw when new and develops from there.
Prem III = thinner than Latigo and is a more delicate leather, but has a huge amount of draw.
Prem IV = English Bridle leather treated to enhance its draw. Starts off nice and gets better with use.
Horse = neatsfoot oil and daily rubbing will cause the strop will break in with a draw you will appreciate.
Roo = offers a medium draw and superior results for you daily razor stropping.

Questions:
On the Prem I, does "elegant draw" mean less draw than the medium draw the Prem II has ?
On the Prem II, what does "develops from there" mean ? Get's more draw, or gets more silky (ie: less draw)...
On the Prem IV, does being made of Bridle leather imply it's thicker or harder surfaced ?
How much draw do the Latigo, Prem IV, and Horse have ?

Even if it's just 1 person's opinion, I think a comparison of the relative differences in draw would be very useful

Perhaps it's just me, but you are asking that one of the excuses we use to buy stuff is eliminated. I, for once, am horrified and think this is heresy.

I'm shopping for my fourth strop, and I need to be able to say with a straight face that I need to experience it without the SWMBO be able to come back and tell me that it's a "number 4 draw like the one you last bought" and derail my efforts.

I must therefore ask you, in the name of everything that is holy and sacred, that you please stop.

Don't forget the Roo and Buffalo strops, imho, those two have a draw different from all the other strops and even a difference between these two. I love the feel of the roo, and the horsehide, buffalo and bridle. : - )

With all the choices and the way AD's go, you could always order all of them. Lynn & Don wouldn't mind at all!

The Premium one was a wonderful choice for my first strop. I'd say it has a light draw. On a side note, I would have preferred rings instead of paddle handles, but maybe it's a performance enhancement that I should get used to.
