Thread: Scotch Lassie razor strop

Picked up one of these on flea bay. It is in good condition. Are these considered good strops?

Scotch lassies are my favorite strop, hands down. Hunted for years, scored a NOS one, and will carry it with me to the grave!

I saw that one. Thought about it myself, but funds are tight these days. I have heard they are pretty good stuff.

I have two of them that were NOS when I got them, but both have been used heavily over the years. They are just great strops. Pefect combination of thickness and draw in a strop.

I believe they are supposed to be awesome. BKratchmer lusted for one for quite some time, so I pointed him at a BIN on ebay a while back. Perhaps he'll share his thoughts.

If I'm not mistaken, he wanted one after trying Lynn's.

Mine seems to working great. Following a lot of advice from here including Lynn on his DVD, I treated the strop with Neetsfoot oil, which I had to order
online as none of the local places had any, including a great boot and tack shop nearby in Carson City, NV. I have great memories of Neetsfoot Oil as a kid
in Portland, Oregon, coating all our shoes and boots with same for the rainy season, which was year round. Thanks for all the responses.

I should also have added that about 3/4's of the way up on the Scotch Lassie there is an area that looked like it have been exposed to some heat
source. It worried me until I applied the Neetsfoot oil liberally on that area and it now seems "cured." Donald

I got mine on fleabay, the strop along with a small brush and an old spice shaving mug [again, on Lynn's advice I got a puck of Tabac for the mug, great soap]. The whole thing was $9.95 plus $11 shipping. Maybe I shouldn't mention the price and my good fortune. Donald
