Default Naniwa Hones, Restored Sheffield Wedge, and lots of other new stuff at SR4S

    Hi everyone,

I am really excited to announce that I am now carrying Naniwa Super Stones on my website.
I have individual stones, and I put together a couple of package deals.

I also just put up some new razors. There's something for everyone - I have lots of shave-ready budget razors at or below $35 - one as low as $20.
There are a couple of nicer razors up now too - a full custom restore, and a restored sheffield wedge, along with some others.

You can check it all out at Straight Razors for Sale

In the near future I will have DMT and Norton stones, new Dovo razors, soap, and possibly a few other goodies. I'll be sure to post updates here as things come in.

    Now, about the restore:
It's a 7/8 Joseph Mappin wedge, restored to look old, with scales and hardware to resemble the original.

I took the scales off this one because they had a lot of bug bites. While the scales were off, the blade was one of the victims of my daughter's soda attack. It ended up with a lot of tarnish and rust. I took the rust off, and under it was a lot of very small, but very deep pits. I think it would have taken a regrind to get them out, so I opted to leave the pits and create an artificial patina.

The scales are black horn, matched to the shape of the originals. I re-used the original lead wedge. Hardware is brass and stainless stacked washers with nickel pins.

I honed it without tape. You can see that the spine wear has a wavy pattern to it - I am not sure if this was from the original grinding of the razor or something else... I didn't buff on it enough to make it uneven. Whatever the cause, I think it actually looks kind of neat.
The waviness didn't affect the honing at all.
