    Default Success!

Today I shaved with a razor that I "restored" and honed myself!

I put restored in quotes because all I really did was sand and polish it, and even that was a less than perfect job as there are some scratches that I didn't manage to get out of the Wade & Butcher "Medium Hollow Ground" beauty I grabbed from the bay a while ago.

It also fought me a bit on the hones, this being the first blade I ever put to work. Eventually I figured out an even stroke and got a good edge that gave me a heck of a shave.

Compared to everything else you see in this forum, my accomplishment isn't much to brag about, but it's a start and I am psyched. Many thanks to all of you wizards on here who share your knowledge.

And just to avoid "this post is useless without pics" from the others, I'll attach before and after.

You should be proud. One has to start somewhere.
I still remember your first posts. Look how far and fast you've progressed.
Keep up the motivation and the positive spirit!

Its small victories like this that convince us less than profesional restorers we too might eventually do great things.

Awesome!!... You will never forget the first shave from the first razor you restore and honed yourself.
Keep it up, will only get better.

Brag all you want! That's a fine start and a beautiful job! You are well on the way, and will always love that first total do-it-yerselfer.

That came out great, a nice clean vintage restore....

I see you took the time to polish out the "slick black" scales too....

There certainly is a true sense of accomplishment when you bring one out of the shadows and into the light again....

That's look fantastic, you have every right to be proud! I remember first "restore" (i.e. sanding and polishing) of a blade then shaving with it after I honed it myself. It was a glorious feeling, so I imagine you are feeling quite the same. Congratulations!

    Default "Resto" #2

And today I shaved with an Easy Aces that I shined up and honed.

This one actually had some hone wear that I had asked about in another thread. It smoothed out quite nicely. More importantly, it's a nice little shaver.
I'll get some pics of that one up soon.
