Out, Out Damned Spot!
One thing I am having a very hard time with is removing the tiny black spots left behind after polishing, as well as water spots. I cannot buff them out and cleaners seem to do nothing. Is there anything I can do to eliminate or at least minimize these spots that are ruining my mirror finish?

Those are probably remaining residual pits that eventually turn black again. Nothing much you can do unless you remove more steel completely removing the pits. Some conditions like humidity will turn those black in a instant. As much as you try to polish them out, eventually they will turn black again.

Thanks and a follow-up
Max,
Thanks for your answer. I had a feeling that that was the answer. I am trying to create mirror finishes on the razors I restore. I am having problems doing so. Pitting is one issue. Another thing I am finding particularly galling is that my best polisher seems to be the sisal wheel with emery compound! Every other wheel and every other compound I use seems to cloud the steel. Does this make any sense at all?
Thanks again!
John
