Buffing setup on the cheap help
I am going to get myself a basic setup for restoring razors, and I was looking for some economical solution. I was looking at greaseless compounds for the coarse grit, while I saw this thread:
Making you own grinding wheel!
Anyone tried this method for polishing razors? Can it work?
I understand that it is more work to make these wheels than just to get the greaseless out of the box, load the wheel, and let dry. But I won't be restoring too much razors, so I think the time issue is not a big problem.
The price of the glue is about 10$, and the grit is about 3$ per kilo to 320, and 15$ upwards from 400. I would buy 0,2 kilo from 60-80-120-180-240-320-400-600 grit powder, glue, and 3 buffing compounds, for about 50$, opposed to greaseless, which would cost me about 120$. I already have the 6" felt wheels I will be using, I got them from a friend, so that is not an issue. I will buy 3 stitched wheels for the buffing compounds.
Any opinions are welcome!

Know thyself
The cheapest way that I know of that I know will work is using a Harbor Freight buffer or benchtop grinder. But I'm not sure if you could get one of those in Hungary.
Is your estimate on cost for greaseless compounds based on shipping? Because from what I remember, greaseless compound is maybe $10 per grit.

I can get a grit for about 10$, and the polishing compounds are 10$ each too. I did not calculated shipping in, because I would buy either from the same place.

I don't know what their international shipping is like, but I would suggest looking here for greaseless and buffing compounds and wheels if you need more: Caswell Inc. - Standard Buffing Compounds
SRD also sells buffing compounds, but I don't think they sell greaseless Razor Repair & Restoration : Straight Razor Designs, The Finest In Gentlemens Shaving And Grooming Needs
Then it is just a question of a motor. The Harbor Freight ones are $40 I think, but again, shipping...
