Thread: 13/8 custom in Walnut

Hmm... Ok so now that I got your attention.... sorry, I didn't make a 13/8 razor.

What I did do...is I got two new tools for my shop!

I got lucky over the last couple of weeks at Garage sales.

The first thing I scored:

a 16" Craftsman Scroll saw



I paid only $17 for this thing, and it works fantastic. i only took the pin-type blades...so, I went out and picked up a little adapter for it (IT WAS MORE THAN THE SAW!!!) so that it takes plain-end blades. I'm looking forward to using it for all sorts of stuff. i snagged some Olsen blades from Woodcraft, so, im ready to roll.

The second thing I scored:

A 12" JET 1/2H 115v Band saw. Holy cow! What a pleasant surprise... barely used.. I paid only 200 for it -- and now I get to sell my little hobby benchtop one.




Pretty cool, huh! It really pays to hit the Garage sales now and again!

OK so, I didn't want to disappoint.. there was a bit of truth to my title... I got all these new toys, I had to try some sort of fun project, right?!!?!?! how about a little decoration for the shop????

Nice scores Brad! I've been eyeing a similar Jet, but I think they go for $350-400 new. I currently don't have a bandsaw, but have managed to get by with my scroll saw pretty well. Got mine on craigslist on the cheap and it works great (dremel brand).

I find that it takes about 1.5 - 2 blades (10 tpi) to cut a set of G10 scales. I go back and forth between the coping saw and scroll saw as the scroll saw blades aren't that expensive (but the coping saw blade will last about 1-2 sets of scales).

What I'm really eyeing is that thing in the corner. Someday I'll get a grinder built.

yeah, Jet actually discontinued their 12" models, and only have 10" and 14" now. The 14 is around $650.

Love that Damascus blade !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boy, if you made it bigger you could market that to all kinds of barber shops, with the shops name burnt into it,and they could use it as their sign out side the store. $$$$$$$$$$$$

Ask my son -- he had it open, had the correct grip, and was shaving his face earlier. I even saw him do the classic cut-throat up the neck stroke! hahaha..

Oddly enough, he was BBS! (maybe being 8 yrs old has something to do with it.... )
