Anybody use camellia oil on... a DE?
Just curious whether anyone uses camellia (tsubaki) oil on DE razors. I'm thinking about using some to smooth out the TTO mechanism on a nickel-plated razor. I wouldn't want to damage the plating, and all the info I can find on camellia oil references using on carbon-steel or stainless, no mention of other metals.
Thanks!

Camellia oil oxidizes over time into a sticky mess. I wouldn't use it as a lubricant. The reason it's used on blades is they're usually not in storage for a year or two. I've seem blades stored for longer, and it's not a pretty thing.

And that puts it to bed. I'll go with mineral oil then. Thank you, Jim!

We usually talk about oils for protection and prevention around these parts since Straights don't have any mechanical parts save the pivot point. For a DE with a mechanical system I would use a lubricating oil made for that use. You don't have to worry about the stuff coming in contact with your face if used sparingly.
