Thread: Worcester Razor, my 1st restore

Picked a simple one for the 1st restore. Some light pits and rust. Learned to unpin and pin scales. I worked as a gunsmith for several years so the metal work came easy. Stamping is still crisp. Careful unpinning allowed me to use the original washers. I think the scales are bakelite so I could not do much with the chip where the toe of the blade enters the scales. Seems to be a common area for scale damage on old razors. A fun project and I learned from it.

I still have the bevel to set. Hope to shave with it this Sunday. My advise to someone new at this like me is read the stickys. Thanks to all that contributed to them. They kept me out of trouble. There is quit a bit of info there and of course there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Great job! Looks like you got a nice, even finish on the blade.

OK so it's Saturday and not Sunday but I couldn't wait to shave with it. Made up a nice rich Tabac lather and applied the blade to my right cheek. Made a couple of strokes WTG. What? no sound. The razor just seemed to slide over my face. What the heck? A couple more passes and now most of the right side of my face is done. Feels the same, just a smooth glide and no sound. Did it even remove the whiskers? I know its sharp. In fact it took longer than normal to hone and I took such great care to get it right. I tentativly run my fingertips over my cheek expecting to feel stubble. A big friggen smile forms on on my face. Smooth! I turn the razor to check the grind and I'll be damned looks like 1/4 hollow grind. I wonder why I didn't notice the grind before.
So I finish a 3 pass shave and it's just really a nice shave. I have several razors but all full hollow or near that anyway. What a different feeling shave with the 1/4 hollow and it explains the extra effort honing.
