Please define greaseless compound, when it should or should not be used, if it is better than wet/dry paper.

Better???? hmmmmm how about this if I was only restoring razors for myself I doubt I would have ever moved to using Tumblers and/or Buffers
it takes "Days" to get a good finish by hand it takes "Hours" to use power.. (It is also way more dangerous to the razor and you when you start playing with fast spinning wheels)

But I doubt most people could see a difference in the finished steel...

I use a combination of Wet and Dry paper and greaseless compound.
