Thread: Peening Tip

I like to polish my pins – they just look nicer that way IMO.

For a dark colored scales, this is no problem. For lighter colored scales, polishing the pins often discolors the scales slightly (no matter how careful I am and even when using a sheet metal protector). The scales usually clean up OK, but it’s extra work.

But last night I tried something new. I applied some Renaissance Wax to the scales prior to polishing the pins. The result was a much easier clean-up – in fact, in most cases the wax prevented the discoloration altogether.

I usually apply Renaissance Wax upon final assembly anyways, so my process only amounted to a resequencing of steps.

I’m sure this is no news for the pros, but the tip worked so well for me that I felt compelled to share. Thanks for reading.
