Thread: First semi-restore

I picked up an old Boker at an antique store a few weeks ago that was in need of some TLC. I bought some Zebrawood to make new scales and I think they're coming along nicely. I think I may stain them a little darker before sealing them up. Here's a pic of the blade and new scales mocked up. I should have my pins and washers later this week, so I might get the re-scale done this weekend. Let me know what you think.

Today was not very good honing day. I don't think I stayed on the 1000k very long and I couldn't get a edge so u know how it is on honing I'll hit it in alittle bit again

Looking nice! The only thing I would say is the scales look a might wide.. I would line them up with the old ones to see how much more you need to thin them.

Yeah, not done sanding by a long shot. Zebrawood is a lot denser than I originally thought it would be.

This is strictly personal preference, but I'd make the scales a bit narrower at the pivot end. I just rescaled a WB that someone had scaled with the same width from end to end - just didn't look right, IMO. I really like your zebrawood and the way you have left some evidence of age on the razor.

I started to polish the blade, but then I thought it would look better with some patina. I put some yellow mustard on the blade and let it sit for about 20 minutes, and that darkened it up nicely. I honed the blade last night, and I'm going to test shave it tomorrow. I'll be glad once I can get the scales on. Stropping a blade without scales is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Now that I look at it in the pics, the scales do look too thick. They don't appear that big in person, but a little more sanding will definitely make them look better. I'll post up the finished pics later this week.

Did ur strip live? Or does it have battle scars

I scratched it a time or two, no real cuts thank goodness. The scratches went away easily enough just from rubbing them with my palm.
