First purchase questions

Kilmeny

I question whether I have a question or not.
The futur is a good razor, but some people have a problem with the size of the head, they have said its a little big for getting the hair under the nose..
What is your price range concerning the razor? I'm surprised no one mentioned a Yaqi brush because you can get a very nice brush from them with Many choices of knots and handle designs..
Concerning the razor i can pay up to 80euros max (so I'm ready to look at other better models if that's the case). Concerning the Yaqi brush, wich models do you suggest me from them ? (I dont want to spend a lot in term of brush for my first one (around 30euros), that's why i thought about the Kent "Infintiy" for instance or a first price from Muhle.
An other question : Regarding the soap jar, is it useful to buy a separate bowl, or is it entirely feasible to lather the soap with the badger directly into the soap jar in which the product is delivered?

well for about 3 USD more you could get a Rockwell 6s razor which is stainless steel and comes with 3 different plates so you can pick which one you like best so its "adjustable " and should last you a very long time.. You could start with a mild plate and as you get more experience you could change to a more aggressive plate... as far as Yaqi brushes go that is very subjective.. If I were you I would find a handle that I like the style of and has a knot I would want to use.. Yaqi has everything from silvertip knots to synthetic and anything in between.

Sorry, Jimmy, but there is no can of worms about Tabac. It's wonderful. If you don't like it you must go and have your head examined. C'est tout.
I didnt say I had a problem with it but it is a Very polar soap either you love it or you hate it.. I have some myself and I think its okay.. Of course I dont have a problem with the scent of Arko either so..................

The rockwell 6s razor look good, but he's priced at 115 euros :/ it's a little bit more expensive than the Merkur futur for instance so i don't know. What do you mean by knot concerning the brush ?

there are plenty of different synthetic types also just like there are different grades of badger..a lot of people seem to like this one..

Check around about the rockwell because i saw one for 99 USD and you said your budget was 97 USD which translates to 80 euro's... Fendrihan and strivezy and smallflower have it for 100..

I was thinking of two shaving soaps in particular from Tabac, one of them with scent tobacco, I don't think I would worry about it or in which case I had seen the Formula T Shaving Soap made with Shea Butter & Tallow. What about aftershave suggestions according to you ? Knowing how I said I would like one that lasts long enough, but I'm also afraid that it will mix with the perfume I apply on my neck.

If i buy the razor on Fendrihan, the ship fee's are free even if i live in France ? (edit : they said : "Unfortunately, because of high shipping costs, we cannot offer free shipping for Orders outside U.S.A.")
And is this razor really better designed than the future merkur providing for example a better cut (among other things) or do you think it will simply be more durable? (Because besides it's not the razor that makes it cut more or less well if, it's simply aesthetic? Only the blades are the cause of it I'm mistaken?).

Its not just the blades that make different razor cut differently the razor is also an important part of it. Like I said earlier a lot of people have problems with shaving under their nose with the futur. Blades are an important aspect so you Will try several brands before you find your favorite.
according to their website at Fendrihan it states....
Unfortunately, because of high shipping costs, we cannot offer free shipping for:
  • Orders outside U.S.A.
  • Orders from Associated States, Puerto Rico, US Military Addresses (APO, AFO, etc)
For orders that do not qualify for Free Shipping, we offer discounted shipping rates. To calculate the rate to your destination, click on the "Estimate shipping cost" link on the shopping cart page. Shipping charges vary depending on the location, size, and weight of the package.

this company has it for £89.00

Italian barber has it for.....99.00 USD and it shows they do international shipping

Also as a side note the rockwell 6c is considerably cheaper as its not made of stainless steel but also comes with the different plates.
also of note is a The Merkur 38C, Barber-Pole Handle, Double-Edge Safety Razor.. The 38C has nice heft to the razor and handle (120g) and is a decent price also...the 38c is 41.28 Euro..
I have both of these and i like them both but i probably use the 38C more...

Yep i've seen the merkur 38c, he seems good aswell , the head of this one is smaller than the futur for instance and therefore makes it easier to shave under the nose or it's the same size ?

Because yep i dont think i will buy the rockwell 6c, with the ship fee's it's more close to 100€ than 80€. But if you said that so many people report the fact that it's difficult to shave under the nose with the futur, it's gonna be a problem ?. To know that i've a pretty small head (idk if it's an important detail ?)

The 38c would be easier under the nose yes. It seems like a good razor. I have had it for a few months and I like it

All right then, I'll think about which razor to choose between the future, the 38c or the 6c (if there are no other models, but I don't want to know too much either, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make up my mind).
Concerning the soap, I would see if I first buy something cheap at Proraso or Tabacco for example and then test it at Martin de Candre, concerning the aftershave, I had some suggestions (I would see which one to take, what do you advise me ?). And you must not have seen my question about the bowl, is it useful to buy one separately or can I foam inside the jar of the product directly? A last question also concerning the brush, it has to be dried upside down, isn't it ? A support is mandatory or it is possible to find a "homemade alternative".
Sorry in advance for all these questions following

  1. All right then, I'll think about which razor to choose between the future, the 38c or the 6c (if there are no other models, but I don't want to know too much either, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make up my mind). I Think thats enough
  2. Concerning the soap, I would see if I first buy something cheap at Proraso or Tabacco for example and then test it at Martin de Candre, concerning the aftershave, I had some suggestions (I would see which one to take, what do you advise me ?). Honestly its your choice..You have some okay choices picked..
  3. And you must not have seen my question about the bowl, is it useful to buy one separately or can I foam inside the jar of the product directly?Bowls are nice to have I use a bowl and I use a Moss Scuttle that was graciously sent to me by Mr @drmoss_ca himself
  4. A last question also concerning the brush, it has to be dried upside down, isn't it ? A support is mandatory or it is possible to find a "homemade alternative". I do dry mine bristles down.. Some people dont. You can get a stand or you can make one.. It can be as simple as a bent coathanger or you could build one out of wood or whatever.
  5. Sorry in advance for all these questions following... No reason to say sorry because thats what we are all here for.. You learn by asking.

I question whether I have a question or not.
Nobody can tell you what scent you will like, only what we like. So, sorry, no help there.
I'm well aware of that, but when I ask for suggestions it was more about the brands making quality aftershave (then I would choose the scent that suits me at one of them)

Another question, (which this time is irrelevant to the initial post), I was planning to take a block of Alum, is it really useful? Or the fact of passing a towel of very cold water is enough to stop potential blood cuts?
I also wanted to create a brand new post to get advice on how to prepare the hair/skin before shaving (apart from soap and badger), but if you can give me your answers by replying directly to this post it's with great pleasure (in which case I'll create a new topic)

I'm going to try probably this shaving soap and another one from an other brand (Tobacco didn't ship in my country). So I come to my question about the jar, after having lathered the soap with the brush, there will be some excess foam left I guess, so should I rinse it with plenty of water and then let it dry or rather recommend to recover with a towel for example?

Living in the country you do there should be Plenty of great AS and colognes...alum is pretty good I got some a while back.. A styptic stick would also be helpful for weepers. some people that use the proraso in the jar will dip their brush into the soap and then flip the lid and use the lid to build a lather.
