I bet those will look awesome when put on a razor.
I printed a wedge too but its not thick enough. I could probably print a second wedge and double them up for the right thickness.. I will have to wait until i can find a razor that needs scales and try it on it.. I personally dont have one that needs scales right now.. I just wanted to see if i could print one and it turn out okay... they are about 146mm long..

Sorry dear fellows, as an 8/8th addict (see the post: The Size of a Razor) I thought I posted a message of a razor blade that is on my bureau in order to get scaled. An elementary Koraat, 8/8th; 1/4 hollow, polished an etched (gun blued) by me, before my above shown message. Something went wrong. Another attempt.Koraat scaling project.jpg

And another previously rusty toddler with replaced scales. Bought at an Edinburgh flea market. After demolishing and refurbishing, etched (gun blue). Not a well-known famous brand, but shaving very smoothly. Cocobolo.

Anyone interested in making and showing his own made and mounted scales or should we rather leave this thread bleed to death?

unfortunately the only scales I have mounted are those I stand on to weigh myself each morning. As far as the bleeding part...I try to minimise :/

PS nice razors and scales All :)

Gentlemen, since ours is scaling straight razors, I've three potential candidates in my mind, all brandnew unused old stock:

1. Grah & Plühmacher Solingen-Weyer, Gotta 7/8, 1/1 hollow, Spanish head, carbon steel $ 107,00
2. Luckhaus & Günther Solingen 7/8, 1/1 hollow, Carbon steel, $ 102,50
3. Grah & Plühmacher Solingen-Weyer, Blue diamond 7/8, 1/1 hollow, Carbon steel $ 107.00

These guys are becoming extinct. 1. and 3. are very close. But they are the only ones I might lay hands on. What about it?

Quote: "The Gotta brand was produced after WW2, but there is little evidence that the blue diamond was produced again except when the name was reused in the 1940s-50's."

To compare, these Razors with original scales cost $ 230 to € 245 (Yurp)

Okay gentlemen, we all know the straight brand Dovo. We know that this house does not produce "artisan". Profiles are stamped from sheet steel with machines. There's nothing wrong with that steel. And it is excellently hardened and tempered in an industrially automated way. And thereby belies that everything made by hand is better. They shave, properly stropped like hell. But then the adventure begins with the "middle of the road" models. The gilding elements of the blades already disappear when you look at them, let alone when you breathe on them. But the worst thing is the quality and production of the scales. You can't imagine a worse Elcheapo plastic. That is why I tear off the scales out of the box with this type of straight shavers. And go replace. Hereafter a few pictures of a 6/8th 1/1 hollow razor refitted with Cocobolo scales. Steel miniature bolts & nuts. Wedge white Ebony.
