What Are You Reading?

What are you all reading currently? Novels or non-fiction? I’m interested to hear about good books you are reading or finished reading recently.

I’ve been reading Moby Dick for the last month. This is a book I have tried to read twice before but couldn’t get into it. I’m around 1/3 of the way through the book this time around. The quality of the writing is excellent.

Is there a Doctor in the house ?
I'm in the middle of the third part of Hilary Mantel's trilogy about the life of Thomas Cromwell - Henry VIII's equivalent of Michael Cohen. I'm only allowing myself to read it slowly, as I know what must happen to Cromwell at the end.

Preparing a stack of reading for the long admission:

So, re-reading some John Buchans last read in my youth, three thick Niall Ferguson historical books, one on POWs in the far east (I've been trying to remember the name of a major that my grandparents bought a house from in the '60's, turned out he was court martialled after the war for one of those incidents - maybe in Changi - where someone tried to escape, and a certain number of prisoners were to be beheaded in retaliation unless the culprit came forward. As OiC, he had to decide what to do, and he gave up the escapee rather than have innocent men die. He was disgraced for this at trial.) and finally a few books by the wise and delightful Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. Even atheists like wisdom and good advice.

Yes, a long time ago!
Me too.. There are some that still have never read it though, so I had to ask since I didn't know.. Have you ever read Dale Brown's books? He is a former Air Force pilot who writes some decent military novels. I have read all his books except the latest couple which I'm gonna start soon.

I'm going to dust this one off.

I just finished The Walking Drum by Louis L'Amour. I'm also reading his memoir. Education of a Wandering Man. Every year I challenge myself to read 5 great works. This year I've read The Prince by Machiavelli, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Walden by Henry David Thoureau. I try to read great works that are outside my preferred genre.

I’m currently reading The Holy Bible, alternating between Old and New Testament.

I’m also reading a novel called The Afghan Campaign by Steven Pressfield. This book is about Alexander’s war in Afghanistan between conquering the Persian Empire and invading India. I’d recommend it if you are a history buff.
