Honing a New Razor

Hi,

This is a long shot but nothing to lose by asking.

I have a brand new straight razor (a Dovo) which I’m assuming needs a hone before I use it (I’ve tried it once - successfully - but it was a little uncomfortable). It was quite an expensive item so I’d like to get it done professionally and locally if at all possible for the first time. I’m in Birmingham, England. I don’t suppose anyone knows of somewhere I could take it? I plan to buy some cheap second hand razors to practise on at some point but in the meantime I’d love to get this one up and running properly.

thanks,

Ed.

There are several people around there that home I would suggest that you Google it... Also I don't know if Robert has moved yet to Ireland like I had heard he was going to but you could ask him and see since I know he is good at that too. Good luck and hopefully others will chime in.

Thanks. I did do some googling and found this guy:

He doesn't specifically mention razors so have dropped him an email.

That said this is quite an expensive razor so if anyone has any recommendations in the Birmingham area I’d be grateful. I’m a little reluctant to take it to somebody without recommendation.

Thanks

just a friendly reminder be careful placing links they are not allowed unless relevant to the community and approved by staff... I approved your link because it was relevant and part of your question..
also you need to really check the person you listed because just because someone sharpens knives/ scissors doesn't mean they can sharpen S.R. they are completely different to sharpen.

In the UK, the Invisible Edge online store has a honing service. It's important that the person know how to hone razors, an all types of sharpening service might not be ok. I have not used their services so I can't give you an opinion from my experience.
